This page will let you know how to add or edit the content of this site. We whole heartedly encourage user input to the information held on this site, infact that is its main purpose. So if you've got things you want to share, this is how to do it. If you are having any problems or have a question about how to use the site that isn't answered here, email otepoti.urban.organics@gmail.com

Before you can edit pages, add forum posts, make blog entries etc. you'll need to have a username and password so that you can log in. It takes about one minute. All you have to do is:
  1. Click 'create new account' under the 'login' area in the left hand bar of the page.
  2. Enter the required information and choose what your username will be. Your username can be your real name, or a 'nick name'/handle.
  3. Choose what password you want to use.
  4. Log in. You will also be sent a confirmation email with details of your registration (for future reference)
  5. Thats it! You can now log in with your new username and password from any computer that has the internet.
  1. Go to the discussion forums main page and choose the forum that covers the topic you're interested in
  2. Have a look at what threads are already there. It always pays to try searching the forum first using the 'advanced search' option, as the topic you're posting about may have already been discussed in depth.
  3. To make a post, click 'post new forum topic' at the top of the forum you're posting in. If you click it from the main forum index page, you'll also have to choose which forum you want your post to go into when making a post.
  4. To reply to a post, click on 'reply' or 'add comment' at the bottom of the thread that you are wanting to reply to.
  5. Fill in the required fields...title, content, etc. You can use the formatting bar at the top of the text box to make fonts bold, italic etc. or to add pictures to your post.
  6. Once you've written the post, scroll down and click either 'preview' or 'save'. 'Preview' will show you how your post will look and allow you to change it. 'Save' will post your message to the discussion boards without previewing.
  1. Go to the page that you want to add content to. Such as the 'Brassicas' page of the 'species specific growing information' section of the gardening guide.
  2. At the top of any given page, to the right of its title, there is a box saying 'edit'. Click this. If there is no box saying edit then it is probably not an editable page.
  3. Follow instructions as per forum posts above.

ADDING PICTURES INTO FORUM POSTS AND OTHER PAGES

You can either upload pictures from your computer onto the website, or link to photos that are already uploaded to the internet.

  1. When you're making a post or editing a page, click on the button in the top formatting bar that looks like this:
  2. To the right of the 'URL' box it says 'browse server'. Click that. OR, if the image you want is already on the internet and you know it's link (right click photo and click 'copy link location') you can add it in right now.
  3. At the top of the window that opens, click 'upload' and then again click 'browse' to find the file on your own computer. So if you saved it in 'C:/My Documents/My Pictures' for instance, go find it there.
  4. Click 'upload' and your picture will appear in a list of files that are on the websites server.
  5. Click 'send to FCKeditor' at the top of the upload box.
  6. If you want the text to wrap around the image, select 'align left' or 'align right' in the box provided.
  7. Click OK. The image should now appear inserted into your post or page edit.
